Before the Euro Disney Resort opened on 12th April 1992, this was the main small-format brochure distributed across Europe from December 1991 onwards. The bright yellow cover shows off the strong brand image created for the resort, whilst the majority of images are either concept art or taken from other Disney resorts. Note the first appearance of a new logo for Euro Disneyland (as the theme park itself was known) above, with the striking Castle graphic, whilst the selection of images for Discoveryland even features artwork hinting at Discovery Mountain. With few parallels to draw from other Disney resorts, the hotels page (above) relies more not just on concept art but models — of Newport Bay Club and Sequoia Lodge. None of the hotels originally had a “Disney’s” prefix in their name. The Disneyland Hotel artwork featured in the background is particularly fascinating — spot those extra details? What you see here is a rare concept for a far more “Disneyfied” building, where the Mickey Mouse clockface would have been joined by a variety of characters integrated into the building, including… Roger Rabbit, sitting in pride of place atop the clock itself! The final fold-out page offers a full map of the entire resort. Liberties were taken with the layout right from the start, with Davy Crockett Ranch and Golf Disneyland shown in completely the wrong locations, far closer to the resort hub. |
