Le Parisien April Fool causes brief outrage by reporting relocation of Eiffel Tower to Euro Disneyland

Thousands of French citizens are outraged after daily newspaper Le Parisien, perhaps summing up the feelings of French commentators at the time, reports that the Eiffel Tower will be dismantled and relocated to the Euro Disneyland theme park, with the original site given over to a 35,000-seat stadium for the 1992 Olympics. The report is an April Fool, but France doesn’t get the last laugh: It loses the 1992 Summer Olympic bid to Barcelona in Spain at the last round in October 1986. Strangely enough, it was a site near Barcelona which had lost out to Euro Disneyland just a year earlier.
