Allowing visitors to step inside Captain Nemo’s infamous Nautilus submarine, this walkthrough attraction opened as the first phase of a Discoveryland expansion which would see Space Mountain: De la Terre à la Lune completed the following year. Drawing from both the original Jules Verne novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea and the 1954 Disney adaptation, the attraction was originally envisaged to be located inside a much larger Space Mountain building and house its own restaurant in the Grand Salon.
