At the start of the 1995 financial year, the resort’s name is officially changed to Disneyland Paris. This follows a period of transition during which the resort was first marketed as Euro Disneyland and later as Euro Disneyland Paris. Management hoped the new name would resonate more positively with visitors, moving away from what were seen as “cold” and political perceptions of the original Euro Disney name. Instead evoking the longstanding “magic” of Paris itself and positioning the park as a more local enterprise to the French audience, Disneyland Paris also provided a nod back to the original 1955 park in Anaheim, California.
The resort’s name change began a period of confusion over the name of the theme park itself, which too became known as Disneyland Paris. Previously, it had been known separately to the Euro Disney Resort, as Euro Disneyland. This ended in 2002 when opening of Walt Disney Studios Park and the change to Disneyland Resort Paris saw the original park become Disneyland Park, even when the resort again became known as Disneyland Paris in 2009.
