Walt Disney Studios Park opens

The second theme park of Disneyland Paris officially opens its gates to the public with 10 opening-day attractions in four “production zones”. Disney Studio 1 in Front Lot; Art of Disney Animation, Animagique and Flying Carpets Over Agrabah in Animation Courtyard; CinéMagique, Studio Tram Tour: Behind the Magic and Television Production Tour at Walt Disney Television Studios in Production Courtyard; Armageddon: Les Effets Speciaux, Moteurs… Action! Stunt Show Spectacular and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith in Backlot. Numerous live music and streetmosphere shows in the style of film shoots are presented throughout the park, but a daily parade does not begin until June.

Originally due to be known as Disney-MGM Studios Europe with attractions closer to its Florida cousin and a real production studio, the opening of the second gate was brought forward to 1995 before the opening of the resort, then promptly fell off the radar when the original park hit financial trouble. As finances began to improve following several years of solid attendance and revenue increases, it was reborn as the smaller-scale Disney Studios Paris and signed off for construction in 1999.
